Annie Freeland Fishel

Executive Director of Policy and Advocacy

Annie Freeland Fishel is the executive director of policy and advocacy for the UT System Government Relations & Advocacy team. In her position, she leads the policy analysis work and engages with legislative stakeholders to advance University interests. Fishel also partners with the UT Alumni Association to run the UT Advocacy Network, the grassroots program that includes thousands of UT alumni, students, faculty, and staff in every Tennessee county and across the nation.

Before her current position, Fishel was a policy analyst at a non-profit education advocacy organization. She has also worked at the Tennessee Department of Education and the Tennessee Secretary of State’s office.

Fishel earned her undergraduate and Master of Public Policy and Administration degrees from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and has a decade of experience working with the Tennessee General Assembly.
